You need Caregivers If you are a wartime veteran or the surviving spouse of a wartime veteran, you may qualify for a little-known pension called “Aid & Attendance” from the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA).
This pension can provide financial assistance for home health care. It’s important to note that military service must include at least one day during wartime, but overseas service, combat duty, or a service-related disability is not required.

To be eligible for the VetAssist Program, veterans or surviving spouses must meet the following “3 Ms” criteria related to military service, medical conditions, and finances.

To be eligible, you must be a veteran or the surviving spouse of a veteran who served at least 90 days on active duty. With at least one day during wartime, and received an honorable discharge.
You must meet the net worth limit, which is currently set at $127,061 (effective December 1, 2018). This includes counting annual income and assets, excluding the value of your home, vehicle. And predictable ongoing medical expenses, including the cost of in-home care.
Surviving spouses of wartime veterans must meet additional criteria, referred to as the “4 Ms.” This includes meeting all the above requirements and having been married to the qualifying veteran for at least one year at the time of their death. In most circumstances, the surviving spouse must not have remarried.
